Working with Museum staff has been a terrific experience each time! Months later, my students are still talking about the object study- it is their favorite part of the course.
The Academic Engagement Department at the Penn Museum is committed to fostering student engagement with our collections. There are many ways to incorporate the collections into your syllabus virtually, through an in-person visit, or with object-based learning in your classroom. Whether your content relates directly to the our collection, or if you’d like to use the Museum as a platform for developing other academic skills, we are glad to work with Penn faculty to create meaningful experiences that match curricular goals.
Our galleries are open for class visits during normal public hours, or on Mondays and after hours by special request. We offer both instructor-led activities and self-guided ones. Guided tours are available free of charge for Penn classes upon request. We recommend groups of fewer than 20 per tour guide. In addition to gallery-specific and highlights tours, themed and course-specific tours may also be available.
Request VisitWant to dig deeper into object-based learning or the Museum’s collections? Academic Engagement is glad to work with you to develop a workshop on any aspect of Museum Teaching and Learning. Ideal for new faculty, teaching assistants, language faculty, and other staff that would benefit from a deeper exposure to the Museum’s resources.
