Description | Natural brown cotton woven in three pieces with cat stitch seams, heavy silk embroidery on upper front upper back and shoulders in gold green and black on magenta ground, four dark green silk applique discs with embroidered centers, appliqued rays with embroidered edges around neck, purple cotton thread Purpura dye [shell fish] and reddish silk thread cocheneal dye [ Robert Carlsen 1984]. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 56 single ply, Z twist, 1 strand, hand spun natural brown cotton. Weft: 27, single ply, hand spun white shadow stripes. Plain weave. 3 pieces joined, 4 selvedges, made on a back strap loom." |
